Forgiveness Scripts That Have Been Working For Me Lately
Influenced By Guided Meditations, Buddhism, and Recovery
Before I begin, I want to clarify a few things.
When I say “confused,” I mean being in an emotional state of suffering, delusion, selfishness, insecurity, fear, clinging, and generally anything other than being an enlightened being who exists in a state of perfect nirvana.
I do not concern myself with “good” and “bad.” Rather, my priority is to reduce suffering. Therefore, a skillful act would be one that reduces suffering and an unskillful act would be one that increases suffering. I’m not very clear on what constitute skillful acts, but an unskillful act can be anything from ruminating on unpleasant things to causing mass extinction. (To the best of my knowledge I have not caused a mass extinction, but we never know if we’re destroying an entire new branch of life when we use Lysol on the counter.)
On to the exercises.

Self Forgiveness
I know that I have been confused. I know that I have acted unskillfully because I was confused. I know that I have caused suffering because I acted unskillfully because I was confused.
Understanding this, I forgive myself for being confused. Understanding this, I forgive myself for acting unskillfully because I was confused. Understanding this, I forgive myself for causing suffering by acting unskillfully because I was confused.

Forgiving Others

Those are the scripts. They have helped me find a modicum of peace lately. I hope they help you, too. If they do not, please keep searching until you find tools that do help. I hope you find peace.
